They were run by a psycho dictator, but not many people there were brave or foolish enough to defy Ethelberd. Maybe Doug.

I have enjoyed being with Dr. Jones and Nancy though. It was so strange. I was asleep for a few hundred years to protect Ventuswill, and when I came to, she took away my memories of her, thinking that would mean I wouldn't try to save her again. And Nancy just instantly took me and Pico in, even though Pico's a ghost, and troublesome. And Dr. Jones taught me how to be helpful.
